All this stuff seems expensive. Where’s all the money coming from?
We receive funding from Rutgers University and the National Science Foundation.
Is this something that just EBHS has?
About 50 schools from around the country are involved in the program. The official name of the program is the Waksman Student Scholars Program (WSSP), and you can think of EBHS as a "team" part of a larger program.
What is the time commitment like?
Waksman is held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week after school, from 2:15 to 2:55pm. If you decide to join, the course “Research-Sci Honors” will eventually pop on your schedule because Waksman is a class. You can only have 3 unexcused absences per quarter.
Can I do other clubs with Waksman?
Yes, but you can’t go joining every club under the sun. Generally, members will be involved in 1 or maybe 2 other clubs. Missing Waksman for a club is an unexcused absence. As long as you don’t exceed the 3 unexcused absence limit, you will be fine.
Can I do other classes with Waksman (i.e. Model UN)?
Yes. But it will be a lot of work. Many of your Exec Board members do.
Can I do sports with Waksman?
Possibly--talk to us in class.
Are there “tryouts”?
As of 2014-2015, there are no tryouts and there is no type of application process. However, that may change in the future.
How do I join?
If you requested the course “Research-Sci Honors,” it will be on your schedule when you get it in August. If you did not, it will not be on your schedule. Regardless of it is on your schedule on the first day of school, all you have to do is show up on the first day and after 2 weeks you will be added to the class roster (depending on availability) and Waksman will pop up on your schedule. Please note that this policy may change for future school years. If you are interested in taking this course, talk to your guidance counselor and request Waksman during course-request season to ensure you have a spot.
What is the grading policy?
Waksman is a Pass/Fail (P/F) course.
When is the first day?
September 6th , 2017 (Officers only).
